Q. I am engaged to a man who absolutely adores me but I fear that I will break his heart. Our different upbringings have caused our lifestyles to clash; I find his way of life aggravates me rather than stimulates. I know I have impulsively fallen in love with him but I’m fighting to become my true self and to make a right decision.

A. Firstly, it’s important to point out that going to an astrologer or any other consultant around such a decision is both a time honoured, and a tricky thing to do, especially if we’re wanting someone to tell us what to do. An astrologer in his or her integrity will give you the best of information to be able to make your own decision. A chart can’t replace the wisdom of your heart but if you’re not certain of what your heart is saying, then maybe that’s strong enough reason not to go ahead, at least for the time being...click 'Read More' to continue...

Q. My small son had a very bad accident this year, with horrific external wounds which fortunately should heal in time. I'm having a hard time dealing with that as I blame myself and the other person involved. Everyone keeps telling me it was an accident but I can't accept this.

A. We can look at this "every parent's nightmare" through both karmic and psychological lenses, which for me are intricately intertwined, one without the other being incomplete. Firstly, your son's chart has combinations which do represent the likelihood of him attracting such an event, Sun opposition Saturn, Mars conjunct Pluto and Chiron in Scorpio, conjunct the Nadir (I.C.), to name some of them. It describes an individual with a complex mix of great power, wounding and rage, much of which was directly activated at the time of the accident. It does seem so incongruous to describe an innocent, little boy in such terms but this does illuminate some of his primary life issues both as a soul and a person. The accident is part of what we can call the Necessary Wound, part of a complex of experiences (although not necessarily the same)...click 'Read More' below to continue...

Q. What is the significance of having a child on the same birthday and what do her challenges and differences mean to me and to her. I feel that we are the same person. She was born last year and has a rare genetic disorder which has slowed her development and I feel that she is still on another plane spiritually but physically very here.

A. This is a vast question, so I can only touch on some of the themes here. Having the same birthday will definitely have you sharing significant patterns, abilities and feeling processes, especially in Pisces. In a number of places in your charts, there are many parallels; you both have fire Moons, Sun/Plutos, Venus in Aries, even opposite Ascendants, all reinforcing your commonality...click 'Read More' to continue...

Q. How is it possible that you can describe a person’s parents in the birthchart?  I was quite shocked when an astrologer was able to describe my folks in some very significant ways to me.

A. Any astrologer worth his salt, especially the Jungian-influenced ones, should be able to do this with reasonable acuity. This is partly due to some very obvious pointers from traditional astrology and partly due to how much quality therapy and related training the individual astrologer has done.

Its important to point out though is that the chart will describe more of the karma, the psychodynamics and underlying behaviour patterns that the individual experienced with his or her parents particularly during childhood, rather than it being an objective description of the parent. One only has to look at the charts of a bunch of siblings to see that the parents are represented in many different ways, with some consistent themes, based on each individual’s relationship...click 'Read More' to continue...

Q. My past three partners have had unresolved issues with their ex-partners, with hurtful and damaging effects. I feel I can trust no-one anymore. Why am I attracting this and how can I change the pattern?

A. Firstly, you have a Juno/Saturn conjunction in the 5th House opposite your Venus in Scorpio, as part of a T-square with an Aquarius Moon. This describes attracting a great deal of emotional suppression and criticism as a child, which has damaged your self esteem and lowered your subconscious expectations in relationships. Some part of you doesn’t believe that you deserve better. It also creates a tremendous amount of neediness from the child which translates into indiscriminate choosing of partners and has you joining with people who are unavailable, thus repeating the earlier feelings of rejection and unworthiness...click 'Read More' to continue...

Pluto in Capricorn

17/01/2011

Q. For the last decade I’ve had Pluto pummel all my planets in Sagittarius, but as a Capricorn, I’m wondering how it’s going to operate in my Sun sign.

A. I’ve been slowly pondering this, as Pluto is such a powerful force in both our personal and collective lives, representing those ancient deities who ruled over life and death, transformation and rebirth. And its arrival in a sign has often coincided with major wars and profound change, 9/11 being its most obvious symbolic expression in Sagittarius...click 'Read More' to continue...

Q. I have my Jupiter return coming up in September and I am wondering what this means.

A. Jupiter has a 12 year cycle and its return to the birth position is both the end of an old cycle and the beginning of a new one, in terms of how this part of self operates in your life. Jupiter is considered to be one of the good news planets, astrologically speaking, associated with expansion, faith, optimism, good will and good fortune and the expression of much that is truly positive about ourselves and of life in general. Any significant Jupiter transit coincides with benevolent occurrences, some of it obvious, some of it not. But it would be mistake to consider Jupiter to be solely good, as like any planet or part of self it too has a shadow, which can express itself negatively. Classically this comes in the form of arrogance, judgementalism, exaggerated self-confidence, tendencies to take on too much and not be able to make good on one’s promises and expectations...click 'Read More' to continue...

Q. The recent New Moon in Gemini occurred exactly on the current position of my progressed moon, which is in my 7th House of relationships. I’m having some significant shift in the way I feel about them in general and am wondering what this means in the long run.

A. The Progressed Moon is part of the symbolic system called progressions and describes a 28 year cycle reflecting our emotional evolution over time. Even though this cycle is less known, it is as significant as that of Saturn, which also has a similar duration. The Progressed Moon spends 2 and ½ years in each sign and approximately the same in each House, depending on the latter’s size...click 'Read More' to continue...

Q. Are there astrological correlates to Shiva and Shakti? I’m reading a lot about tantra and am wondering if this relationship is represented in the birthchart and whether there are peak times for enhancing my connection to either or both of them?

A. There are, and like tantra, there some yummy and fascinating exploration to be found in our charts. Firstly, both Shiva and Shakti have generic and specific representatives in the chart, befitting their nature...click 'Read More' to continue...

Q. I was born in May of 1966 and have noticed that, like me, all of my friends around the same age are going through the mill, lots of change and instability. Is there something cursed about my generation or is this just coincidence?

A. Every generation has its own pet curses, if you like, because you all bring in a similar type of karma that you all share, represented by the positions of the great outer planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. All that sixties revolution, flower power, counter-culture, revolutionary energy of the time is embodied in your individual and collective psyches, for better, for worse...click 'Read More' to continue...
